Wallace Stevens Bridge Sidewalk Repairs

This project will repair the damaged sidewalks on this Asylum Avenue Bridge over the Park River between Woodland and Elizabeth Streets. These sidewalks are on a heavily-used pedestrian thoroughfare which connects Hartford’s Asylum Hill and the West End. Plaques will also be installed in honor of Hartford poet Wallace Stevens [1879–1955]. This bridge forms a critical pathway along “The Wallace Stevens Walk”, which follows Stevens’ daily route from his workplace at the Hartford Accident & Indemnity Company (“The Hartford”) to his home on Westerly Terrace.

Tree Beautification for Schools

Knox Parks will plant 25-30 long-lived trees in coordination with the City Forester at these five Hartford Public Schools: America's Choice at SAND, Bulkeley High School, Global Communications Academy, Noah Webster Magnet School & Thirman L. Milner School. These schools were identified by the City Forester as having the greatest need for new tree plantings.  These trees will all have a three-year warranty.
